Before Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon became popular, the two hearty red grape varieties that put California on the world wine map to stay were Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. To pay tribute to this tradition, the 2017 Kane Red Blend is a unique combination of 76% Petite Sirah and smaller portions of Zinfandel, Grenache and Syrah grapes, all grown in Mendocino County.
Deep, rich and generous, with a deep purple hue. It starts out with heady aromas of crushed violets, ripe berries, blueberry pop-tarts, black currant, licorice, chocolate-coated espresso beans, allspice, and cedar box. Full-bodied with a plush, velvety texture. The wine’s energetic personality immediately coats the plate with fresh, juicy flavors of black raspberry, blueberry, boysenberry and dark plum. As the wine expands in the glass, the deeper fruit notes are layered with earthy and spicy notes of black truffle, mineral, wild herbs, black pepper, cardamom, and a subtle hint of smoked hickory leading to a long finish. When you add in the bright acidity, smooth tannins and firm structure. The end result is a balanced wine that is approachable now or cellaring for up to a decade. 280 Cases produced.
